Through Cloud, the IT landscape has changed

This slide shows how traditional IT and systems of record has evolved to include a much larger set of services. This expansion, while powerfull for the business, is a lot of work and possibly risk for IT. The world of IT has gotten much larger than consolidated and smaller.

IBM Hybrid Cloud

I feel IBM is in a great position to help Enterprises deliver on their IT initiatives with Hybrid Cloud being a significant enabler.  IBM are used to Heterogeneous environments. During the heated competition between Lotus and Microsoft Exchange, IBM GTS (Global Technology Services) held the top position around Exchange deployments.  This is a terrific example how IBM put customers first beyond their own products.  This is still true today, IBM manage as much non-IBM systems as IBM systems. With Hybrid Cloud being the new-normal, this type of cross vendor capability is one which will certainly drive better customer outcomes.

Mainframe, the initial building block of Hybrid Cloud and still relevant today

This statistic (80% of the World's corporate data resides or originates on Mainframes) caught my attention at IBM InterConnect.  As IT has evolved, specifically in the most recent transition in conversation from Cloud to that of Hybrid-Cloud, we witness the traditional roots in everything we do.  Mainframe or Systems of Record based on an Open Systems architecture is an essential part of any Hybrid Cloud implementation.  Rarely does one find a Hyperscale only implementation, instead multiple components used to deliver on a single outcome.  Mobile and web based applications are best hosted via a Managed or Unmanaged Public Cloud whereas customer database and financial records, used to support this application would reside on prem or in a private infrastructure next-to or near the Public Cloud.

Ever wonder what happens to those smartphone App crash reports

As part of IBM's 'Mobile First' strategy, IBM has established an OEM partnership with APPLAUSE. This is part of IBM Blue Mix enabling higher quality and effective Mobile Apps through an iterative development process.

One central cloud application delivers:

  • Crash reports and any associated pertinent information; OS and App version. Dialog location within the App.
  • Analytics reporting on user sentiment about the app through written reviews and feedback scores on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
  • History of sentiment over time, this provides developers to see clear patterns in customer experience as it relates to their release cycle.
  • Ability to compare the sentiment of multiple apps.  For example, compare the sentiment of a competitors App to your own.
  • Create a feedback loop irrespective of where you are in the development cycle through special feedback features for when an App is in Beta.

I love 'the Voice' of IBM

The event tagline "A New Way" is a perfect description of what is happening in this next wave of Cloud innovation; more focused and connected with Enterprise Customers.
